I heard this song on the TV when I was 12- and felt like bursting into tears. My mother asked why.

The mission-house on the island overlooked a grand view, straight out to sea- but there wasn't a fence! One day when I was 18 months old, my mother was turned away for an instant and I wandered off. I slipped on the grass and fell over the cliff- 100 feet, the only thing that stopped me falling on rocks was ONE small bush. My 2y.o mute brother managed to get my mother over

to where I had fallen- an amazing feat for a 2.y.o Autistic child.

My mother called for help- and it was fortunate that a 60 Minutes team were staying with us? at the time to film a Bicentennial story. My mother attempted to climb after me, but fell and broke her leg- horrifically. Smashed to pieces. She has never been free of problems since, and it serves as a reminder of her sacrficing love for her children.

The men rescued both of us, and took us to the clinic- where my mother was the ONLY

Medical officer (thankfully, the 60 minutes team had also brought a Doctor with them, because my mother was just a registered nurse, though she usually performed a Doctor's tasks). They splinted my mother, who refused painkillers so she could focus on telling them? what to do for me.

I had fractured my skull and they NEARLY had to perform a drill-operation. I was paralysed down one side of my body. I have no memories of this, but according to my father- but the islanders were next door in the...
